1.6L/L4 engine. 2bbl carb. Have this problem very frequently but not always. Also will idle somewhat erratically from time to time. Have new dist. cap/rotor-plugs and wires. No help there. I don't have a shop manual for this car so I'm not sure where to locate the engine scan plug. Any suggestions on what next to try?

It could be a bad modular on the side of the distributor cap, or the modular could be down inside the distributor cap. Hope this helps.

Mileage? Sounds like a bad accelerator pump or accel circuit in the carb---may be due for a rebuild. Could be a vacuum leak if it's more constant.

Catalytic converter & check the air filter element.

Timing could be off...or fuel related, check fuel filter and air filter.
