I just finished reading a biography of Janis Joplin, written by her sister and Bobby McGee is the correct answer. (she made reference to this in the book) Janis and Kris were involved for a short time (on and off), but the relationship didn't last because of their volitile personalities

"Me and Bobby McGee" is the only song I can think of and Bobby McGee would be such a great name for a cat.
Of course, I don't how Bobby the Cat would flag a diesel down or sing the blues, but maybe if you're Kris Kristofferson's cat you could pull that off.
