The war is one of the most important issues today.

The vast majority of lefties want to cut and run..... what would be the consequences of that move?

What is realistic, what's the real solution?

There are really only 3 options. I do not believe a democracy can thrive among the deep racial and religous hatreds in Iraq. The first option would be a permanent US or UN force occupying Iraq. The second would be a division of Iraq into 3 nations--one Kurd, one Sunni and one Shiite. The third would be a strong leader, either monarchy or military, to unite the country and quell rebellion.

If we stay in Iraq be prepared to stay at least 10,000 years that's how long they have been fighting there. The US has started a civil war that may spread through out the mid east. This comes down to when
have had enough war? Then it it will be time to run home with a bloody nose and your tail tucked between your legs.

The solution was not to cause the problem in the first place. US invasion has destabilized the whole nation of Iraq which is now engaged in a civil war. No matter what we do the genocide will continue. Our president caused the slaughter of a whole culture of people when he destablilized the nation there.

I read Asne Seierstad's book A Hundred and One Days - a Baghdad Journal. She interviewed people prior and during the war. It's a very interesting read. And one of the fears expressed by those Iraqis who were for the war was that the Americans would leave too early. They expected civil war and hoped it wouldn't last too long.
In my opinion, pulling out isn't an option.
I think I would like to see a United Arab Nations peacekeeping force there, though.

I almost hate to agree with Joe Biden, but let's divide it into 3 separate states, with a weak central government (the way the US was supposed to be, over 200 years ago).

General Curtis Lemay had the answer to the Vietnam war but no one listened. It would also apply to Iraq.
