well, here's the thing. tampons are way more effective as far as absorption, convenience, and less staining; if you are very heavy, you might have to wear a pad, but not as thick of one, at the same time as the tampon. and you should still change them out as soon as they get full up. and never leave them in more than 8 hours, max. yes they are also associated with lots of health problems, altho there are percentages and such in there that you can consider for yourself how likely it is anything would ever happen to you. there are natural ones you can buy at certain natural food stores. the only other thing you can do is to wear very thick pads (try with wings and other shapes, there are lots of shapes now), and change them out A LOT. change them out as often as you can, that is the only way to avoid staining your clothes. it's a drag but it's just a high maintenance thing. my husband doesn't like me to wear tampons so i hear ya, girl.

Why don't you try using a tampon to see how you like it? It might be hard to get one in at first, but it does get easier with practice. Try to relax when you insert it. Also, the risks are very low if you change the tampon every few hours.

I personally prefer it because it seems cleaner and like you're not walking around in a diaper all day! Especially on a hot day! I hate using pads and only use them for sleeping now.

There is no harm to giving it a try and seeing how you feel about it. If you don't like wearing one, go back to pads.

They are fine so long as you change them every 4 hours. Toxic shock syndrome typically only occurs when females wear their tampons for 8+ hours at a time, which is pretty gross if you ask me.

Wear the right size for your personal needs, and change frequently. You will be fine. You might also want to wear a light panty liner with the tampon just in case of an accident. Good luck.

i was like that for the first few times i used tampons, too. of course, i have a rather light flow, so i could deal with pads, but eventually i decided that i needed to use tampons. i tried using them in the summer before 8th grade, but that was only a few months after i had gotten my first period, so i never managed it. looking back on it now i realize that i just wasn't ready. every once in a while over the next year i tried halfheartedly to use tampons, but again i never managed it. it wasn't until march of 9th grade when i finally started using them, and they were very comfortable. i run cross country and now realize that it's much easier to run with a tampon than a pad. i'd reccommend trying to use a tampon a few times. if you feel comfortable and ready, then go for it! but if not, don't worry, because i've (and so have tons of other girls) been there.

If your period is heavy tampons are totally fine...a tampon has to be worn for up to eight hours withouth any risk of toxic shock syndrome which is caused by the absorbing of fluids by the tampon..as long as you use the lowest absorbancy type for your flow and change your tampons freguently (at least every 4-6 hours) you'll be fine

i'd say definitely tampons.
pads just feel like a big diaper and it's so messy.

you shouldn't be scared though. as long as you change it at least every 4-7 hours I think it is (you should read the instructions) you won't have to worry about Toxic Shock Syndrome or anything.

other than that; they're great.
it's all I use.
If you don't know how to put it in, I'm sure your mom would be glad to help you. and if not, pictured instructions usually come with the box.

good luck deary!

Ok. I started my period about a year ago.. And i was deathly afraid to use tampons. I just started using them and i am so glad i did. They are very scary at first. But then you get used to them. I would reccamend them to anybody. Tampax Pearl works the best. And the slim fit for beginners. They are so easy to use and you can't even feel them. Its really ok to use them and i know exactly how you feel. I was sooo scared.

I use tampons haven't even considered using a pad for years and years... Just read the leaflet inside the box about TSS which is very rare and comes largely from poor hygiene.

tampons are a fantastic invention and for most woman its a case of no going back! The risks can be quite low and as long as you change them regularly you reduce your risks. I would suggest that you use a absorbancy that is quite high and change it regularly in order to prevent leaks. dont be scared, honestly, people use them their whole lives without problems :)

i thought the same thing, but they are def worth figuring out how to put in. i use both, but when i go out i like to use tampons. they are much more comfortable and you dont even feel them if they are put in correctly. you will not get a disease if you change it every few hours. its very unlikely. get smaller ob ones and practice, you may go through a lot of them at first until you get the nack of it.
