It has the same effects as cigarette smoking- increased miscarriage risk, low fetal birth weight and premature delivery.

No, it does not make babies retarded.

I think, without some sort of significant medical need your friend is proving herself to be unable to make proper judgments on care for her baby.

Depending on your state, some mothers are tested without their knowledge both at the doctors and at the hospital for drug use and they can use that information to take the baby.

Perhaps you should let her know that.

Your friend is in total denial if she thinks that smoking weed cannot harm her fetus. Any effects that the mother feels or has from smoking weed all the way up to just taking cough medicine that early on especially, the fetus feels as well. The first three months are the most delicate time of pregnancy, as the baby will be developing the brain and heart, ect. I knew someone long ago who smoked marijuana and took pills and her baby was born extremely underweight and has had learning disabilites. She refused to attribute it to her smoking during pregnancy, but who knows? The point is that you dont know how it will affect your baby so why would you even take that chance? It is incredidle how some women can continue doing that stuff even after they find out they have a baby growing inside them. Just continue to really support her in stopping and research some stuff online about the negative effects and help her to stop for not only the babys well being but for her own as well. Good luck and congrats on your baby as well!! : )

If she only smoked weed a couple times during her pregnancy then most likely it wouldnt have affected the baby. BUT, if she continues to do so, it can lead to an underweight baby, it can cause short attention span... like ADD, and since she is still not that far along it can cause her to miscarry. Try to talk to her and let her know what she is putting her baby at risk for. Not smokin herb isnt the hardest thing to do, unless thats all you do! I stopped smoking a month before I got pregnant. And thank God I did... I dont want to put my baby at risk for any of those things. And drinking should be out of the question... even the smallest amounts of alcohol have been proven to have some affect on a baby. So please, try to talk to your friend... let her know what she is doing is not not good for the baby, or for herself.

OH! And I almost forgot, if the baby has any traces of THC in his/her body after its born, then she can get in really big trouble.Maybe even have her kid taken away from her.

The unborn baby is being fed this junk.If the baby survives
it will have the symptoms of the marijuana.
I once saw a documentary about a baby who was born to a crack addicted mum and i'll never forget that high pitched shreik and redness in that baby's face as it screamed.
I'm not saying your friend is on this harder drug but what i'm saying is that the baby will be born addicted to marijuana just like the mum.Right now she doesn't deserve this baby and needs to seek help before that baby is miscarried or born with some very serious birth defects.

What sort of irresponsible person is she?!It is very unsafe, especially at the first trimester as the baby is developing its brain, organs etc,if she is smokong weed then the baby is too and this could give the baby severe birth abnormalities, brain damage etc.Im 36 weeks pregnant and i have stopped and the day i found out i stopped smoking and drinking, what the hell is 9months out of her whole life?its selfish and she should stop NOW!

Drugs are very bad for the baby, not only does mommy get high, but so does the baby, diminishing the oxygen the baby is getting while she is smoking the pot. Babies also get addicted to pot very easily and can be born needing it, it is a horrible to see an adult go through withdrawl, imagine how hard it is on a tiny infant that doesn't have a clue what is wrong to go through withdrawl..you need to get your Friend to stop or turn her in to someone who can help (her mother..or her baby father)

Good luck and I hope she quits ASAP

Your friend is an idiot. Stop hanging around with her. She is a total loser. Mothers who drink, smoke, and use drugs while they are pregnant are damaging their unborn child.

Obviously, you and your friend are very young and uneducated. Otherwise, you would have heard of "AIDS Babies", FAS, and "Crack Babies".

Where does your stupid, selfish friend think her unborn child is getting food from? It is the same food she is eating. The smoke she inhales and the beer she swills goes right into her baby. Unborn babies cannot handle drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. It damages their brains.

If your friend doesn't mind caring for a slow, retarded and/or deformed child for the rest of her life, then great, let her keep drinking and smoking.

In many cities in North America, including mine, there are large numbers of Aboriginal beggars who do not have jobs. They are addicted to drugs, alcoholics, they stink, and they perform no useful service to society. Statistics show that most of their mothers were alcoholics who drank while they were pregnant. This could be your friend's child when he/she grows up.

Personally, I think that women who do this to their unborn children should be taken to jail and sterilized. But that's just me.

Please, click on the links below, read them, and do everything you can to convince your friend to stop drinking and smoking for just a few months, for the sake of her child. When it is born, she can give it up for adoption and go back to partying if she wants.

I know a girl that did the same thing. Her baby was born healthy, luckly, but at full term was only 5 lbs. Same with everyone else I know who smoked the whole time they were pregnant. Babies all had low birth weight.

I recomend asking her or just sitting down with her and telling what you think. Not only that but if she is a really good friend and so are you ...you will both listen to eachother and help any way you can. Good luck and I hope for her baby's life and her own that she makes the right choice.

it's really not okay! she could have a miscarriage or the baby could have serious health defects. she should stop smoking right away, you really need to sit her down and talk some sense into her. if she really considers you a true friend she'll listen to what you have to say, get her some help!! and make sure she has everything tested to make sure her baby is still okay and not already messed up!!!
