Not only white but Midwest white. Just be thankful that it is not East Texas white or Boston white voice-overs. Soon, it will all be New Delhi India accent.

There is / was a lot of phone operators located in Omaha (Nebraska) because the region is easier to understand by everyone; or has no discernible accent.

huh? what? are yu kidding me? if i made a robot, i would probably have it talk like me. you want ebonics? i do believe there are enough rappers with songs that use more than enough ebonics. As a matter of fact it is used so much that i feel sorry for the foreigner who knows no english, and tries to learn english by listening to it. (you can learn languages by listening to music, watching TV, etc.)
so how's this for an even trade.... white people, as you say have robots that talk like them, and your people whoever they are, have the rap music that uses ebonics.
also, be careful of what you wish for...right at this moment there is a police station (can't remember where; jersey, NY, Cali?) in trouble for making a book on ebonics. how to talk to that particular type of people when you have to approach them or when your life is in danger. So please stop spreading ignorance and stereotypes. Not everyone in that culture speak that way; maybe the people of that culture who make robots don't know the ebonics language as most people would assume they would.

Alriggggghhhhhttttt i keep answering questions like this, and well, i guess no one gets it. Robots. What are some characteristics of robots? 1. No free will to choose right from wrong. 2. Do whatever they are told to do. 3. Exactly the same, no individuallity, no unique characteristics from one to another Sounds like fun, huh? Lets say you see a $100 on the floor. You bend to pick it up, thinking 'woot woot! ipod here we come!' (just making an example) Right as you pick it up and are about to put it in your pocket, you see in the distance a man rulling and hollering "HEY! HEY! THATS MINE! I JUST DROPPED IT, PLEASE GIVE IT BACK! STOP!" He's at a distance where you could easily loose him and pocket the money. So you decide to: A. Pocket the money and run for it B. Return the money and say sorry for trying to steal it and bear with the humilliation. Think now, what would you choose??? In real life, not just to be a goodygoody but really, 100$? wow! Solution A You pocket the money. Whoo! in for the clear, you jump in a cab and head home. You spend the money on (idk) an ipod and the next day your happy about it. But you sorta feel bad for the guy who 'paid' for the ipod. You get to work. As you approach your desk, you see a little envelope in your desk. pink slip inside. Oops, the guy who dropped the $100 was your boss. fired. Do you think this could happen to you? You obviously know the answer to soloution B. Really, do you think youd pocket the money, even if it belonged to someone you didn't know and for the rest of your life, you can forget about it, but sooner or later, it'll come around. What if u were forced to choose solution B, you had to give it back, if you liked it or not. Robots. :)

because the ones that program the robots wouldnt use the most annoying form of expression that some call ebonics. ebonics sound ignorant, and those programming are not ignorant.

Robots need to be understood by the most people. Proper English is the widest used. Why try to seem like one knows less than he does?

Maybe because they are built by white people, why would a white person build a robot and give it a ghetto accent?

Well, who do you think builds the robots in the first place? Last time I checked, there wasn't a lot of cybernetics development in the hood.
