absolutely. australia is independent and has evolved into a different culture and different way of life. it's also now economically independent. the only thing keeping it from being an independent are trade ties, defence ties and the huge amount of english people taking it over.
australia is no longer england's baby. she's all grown up and turned into a wonderful beauty country and it's time to take responsibility for herself.

The biggest argument against becoming a republic is you finish up with George W Bush for president. Every few years, the people of Australia are asked the question (by politicians who would rather like the job of president) and the people answer NO.

This country once was a republic, a republic is individual rights take precedent over government, government works for the people, and is honor bound, legal bound to obey the constitiution that originated this country.
IN a republic 51 percent cannot take away the rights of the other 49 percent. in a democracy they can. In a tyranny or socialist country you get no voice at all, not unless you have alot of money. taxes are lowest in a republic because less government intrusion. and less government overall.

I think that is up to the Australians to decide, I cannot see why they still want our monarchy involved with them anymore, I cant see why we need a monarchy for that matter, I would much sooner have a nation run by an elected president than have an unelected ruler sponging off of tax payers forever more, the money saved by not having to support the monarchy could then be used to fund more useful causes, just imagine no more royal special transportation no more troops to continually guard them, no more free bee holidays for them, no more special treatment for them ( they are just people after all), Prince Andrew would be just Andrew and if he wanted to use a helicopter to go to a golf tournament he would have to pay for it himself instead of using my taxes to fund it, I pay for him yet I have to take a train because if I drive I am criticised for polluting the atmosphere while everyone accepts him using hundreds of gallons of fuel to watch a game of golf, enough said.
