You probably don't have enough free space on your hard drive.
I think it may vary, but if your free space is less than 20% of the total disk space, you may need to delete a few things before you can defragment it.

you need more free space on your hard drive. for my defrag, it says i require at least 15 percent free space...so delete files....unwanted programs...etc and then you can do it.
