Planning to buy stock and resell on eBay for profit. Need to keep accounts for the Taxman here in the United Kingdom.

If no software what specific info should be entered in the columns of the accounts system/book/spreadsheet?

All guidance appreciated...

Thanks,
rhqman

Hi rhqman,

There is plenty of accounting software around, but it's not free. If you decide its worth paying for accounts software, you could look at Tradebox (Sage Start Up Edition) which includes the Sage accounting package and a tool to integrate with eBay, or QuickBooks.

Tradebox: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Sage-START-UP
Quickbooks: http://www.intuitshop.co.uk/store/en/quickbooks/index.jsp

You can just use Excel, where you should record all your sales and expenses, including eBay and PayPal fees. Include date, buyer/supplier name, description, payment type, currency, amount received/paid, VAT (if registered), type ( for expenses, e.g. postage, eBay fees).

Whatever you decide, I recommend you get an accountant, who will be able to help you with your bookkeeping, tax returns, etc.

I hope that helps!
