I have a Trendnet TEW-424UB wireless adapter. The problem I'm having is every time I restart my computer it connects to the network fine, but does not get an IP address. You have to repair the IP connection every single time you start up the computer. It usually doesn't work the first time, but does after trying a few times. Is there any way to get rid of this annoyance?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, and the customer service was no help at all.

Well, I dont have a trendnet but have had this problem with various adapters. Not sure why but sometimes they just "lag" the OS.

My fix was I put a static address on the thing. If you normally only connect to your own network it is a easy fix.
Since your own network will generally be in the 192.168.x.x range you simply pick an address that is outside the DHCP pool of your router and put a static address in that is compatible with the router. Poof, you no longer have the need to pull an address and it will work every time.

If you change networks you will have to re-enable the "Automatic DHCP" functions. You can do this from the "properties" area for the adapter. TCP/IP settings. Just change from automatic to "use the following address" and enter the right data for your system.
Send me a note if you need help setting it to static but the Windows Help will also tell you how.

If your router is 192.168.1.1 and the dhcp starts with 192.168.1.100 (Linksys defaults) set your machine to 192.168.1.10 (not in the dhcp range) use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet -- 192.168.1.1 for the gateway and dns and your done.
