Do you believe in the Big Bang, God, or do you have your own theory?
I personally believe that the universe never actually began, but has just always been here- although the energy within it has been re-created an infinite number of times with the big-bangs and big-crunches.

People, there are some serious research being done to figure out how big bang came to being... currently scientists are searching for the GUT (grand unified theory) or ToE, theory of everything that will finally unite einstein's theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. this theory will try to explain what we see in the universe at its most basic level, and i'm throwing myself with string theory (superstring, m-theory), which states that when two cosmic multidemensional "membranes" collide, they can create enough energy to start a big bang.

That's the best and most scientific guess we have that explains what could have caused the big bang. (no experiments done to prove it yet, but all the math is there; and rarely in science does something with so much mathematical "beauty" turns out completely wrong). infact, once LHC in Europe is completed and operational in 2008, we should begin to test some of this stuff and interesting developments are sure to follow.

I believe that the big bang theory is probably the correct one, the universe is still moving away from the centre of it, at least it is logical, if not completely proven there is plenty of evidence to support it, unlike the superior being theory which requires blind faith and an extreme amount of gullibility to be accepted, after all there is absolutely no evidence to support it and only tales from various people from thousands of years by word of mouth, can you imagine some kind of a god hanging around the universe somewhere controlling everything, no I cant either. Where would he have been before he created the universe anyway and what about beyond the universe did he create that as well, also who created him, was it yet another superior being more superior than him but then who created that one, the question would drive you mad, so the big bang is the obvious answer.
Chris.

I think It did not begin at all but has always been in one form or another. If by begin you mean the universe in the form as we know it today, I'd say no one today can claim to know for sure, but since the human mind does not feel at ease until he has at least some explanation to the origin of existence in general and the universe in particular, I'd go with the big bang theory.

Wehey! A Hitchhiker's Guide fan, I see. I have to say, I also believe in the big bang theory, because the evidence provided by redshift in moving objects and gravitational attraction make this the only real option for me. And to the above who say that the Bible gives the only real explanation due to lack of evidence for any other, I feel that they must have had a rather limited education, since redshift effectively proves the big bang theory.

The Big Bang is likely false. If you've ever seen a blast pattern on Earth or Space, the common shapes of spirals and rotations would not be possible.

The commonality of spirals and rotations (which includes tornadoes, water, and a variety of other events here on earth) suggest that the same process was involved in the formation of the universe.

Look at the pattern of the great storm on Jupiter, the rotation, the direction and compare it to storms on Earth or water moving down a drain. Black holes, incidentally, hold the same shape and rotation.

Just as positron/electron pairs are spontaneously created and destroyed in a vacuum the universe had a finite probability to exist. Because there is no limit to what could happen so given enough time something does happen.

Look all this universe is running on one principle.
ie. Evolution and involution.
Big bang theory is right this physical universe is expanding every moment.
If we know about a lump of clay we know the whole nature of clay.
So take one example anything you know
If we closely observe everything starts from finer particles becomes grosser and again goes backs to finer.
Seed becomes tree and again seed.
So based on this we can say every evolution(Tree) is preceeded and followed by an involution(Seed).
So universe is an infinite chain of involution and evolution with out beginning and with out end.
Nothing in this universe comes new or goes out.
Everything in this universe is always equal and complete.
But who gave or from where this intelligence is borrowed by the universe?
When the universe is existing in finer form(unmanifested state) there should be a disturbance created by something to start manifesting in to grosser.
There should be a cause other wise there will be no effect.
So there we have to say the cause of the cause of this manifestaion is Unknown.
Here that Unknown can be given different names.
One such name is GOD.
On whose command the unmanifested universe became manifested and in whom this universe rest and through whom this universe lives is called GOD.
My GOD is so powerful he is omnipotent and Omnipresent.
He is the cause of the cause and he is the also the universe.
How can the universe be seperate from him.
This is all we can say.
Thou art our father Thou art our mother..
From him everything comes unto him everything goes.

God Bless you.

Ain't got a clue.I'm too busy trying to figure out how to put a flat pack together to wonder about the universe. The finished product will remain but an illusion to be pursued but never attained if i don't get a move one.
