I'm writing a story where a young high school girl lives in an apartment, I was hoping the minimum age to live in an apartment would be 16, but now I'm thinking you have to be 18. So what's the deal? Can you live in an apartment alone at 16?

It depends on the state you (or your character, rather) lives in. You have to be of legal age to enter a contract. In California, it's 18. It varies from state to state. Unless of course, you're an emancipated minor, then it doesn't matter how old you are.

You could say your character lied about her/his age and got away with it... they sky's the limit in fiction.

Good luck with the book!

It's possible. A 16 year old could be emancipated. Or a parent or guardian could co-sign the lease.

Your story is fiction. Create your own scenario as to why she's living in the apartment.
