First, when you look for a hotel in Vegas consider this. Almost all of the big hotels on the Strip are great. The most important things to consider are location, price, and in the summer you want to consider the hotel’s pool area. So, stay on the strip in the center of all of the hotel locations so that you can walk to see all of the hotels and casinos, and all of the free attractions. The best place to stay to do that is in one of the hotels on or nearest to Flamingo Rd & the Strip. At that corner is Caesars Palace, Bellagio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and the Paris hotels. I am not saying you need to stay in one of these but stay close to them. I do recommend the Flamingo and Monte Carlo hotels if you are looking for a good price, location and pool.

The next thing to consider in picking the BEST place is price. Rates go down in the summer (and again after Thanksgiving, until about mid-January (except new years eve when prices double)). So pick a place that has the best price for you. Caesars, Wynn, The Venetian, and Bellagio will cost top dollar all of the time (like $150 and up) per night during the summer. The Flamingo, Ballys Monte Carlo, and some others you can get into for around $100 (but most times for less) during the low seasons. Its also more expensive in all Vegas hotels on Friday and Saturday nights by $40 to
$60 more. So to get a lower rate plan to go to Vegas on Sunday and stay through Thursday night.

In the summer you probably want to spend some time at the pool areas, which in Vegas are fabulous. All of the big hotels have great pool areas. But the Mandalay Bay, and Monte Carlo hotels have a wave pool and a lazy river for tubing or body floating. The MGM hotel has a huge lazy river and a water fall. The Flamingo has a water slide (not big but nice and refreshing) and also a water fall. The pools at Caesars and Bellagio are good because they have multiple pools and plenty of places to sit. Caesars even has a topless pool areas called the VENUS POOL.

I have stayed at Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, MGM, Paris, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Caesars, the Rio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and Harrahs. But the BEST place for me when I go is who has the best price. Again, all of the Strip hotels are great. So shop the web sites, look at the hotel rate calendars, and go when the price is the lowest. That's the best place to stay on the Strip.

You can probably get lower priced rooms at the Circus Circus, Sahara and Rivera on the north end of the Strip, the Tropicana on the south end, and also at the hotels on Fremont Street. The Tropicana is one of the older hotels that has not been renovated like many others. The other locations will place you a long way from the center of the strip action and you’ll have to take a bus or taxi to Strip action. In addition, if you need to run to the room for a little R&R, it’s a long ways.

I recommend staying at the Monte Carlo, Flamingo, MGM, or Ballys as good medium priced hotels in a good location. Just search the web sites to see who has the best rates at the time that you plan or want to go.

A lot depends on when you plan on going to vegas as rates fluctuate a lot. Weekends tend to be higher than sunday-thursday. New Years for example will cost you A LOT OF MONEY. So if you want the best bargain My advice would be to go in december, then you can get most hotels on the strip (excluding bellagio, wynn, venetian and other 5 star expensive places) for 90/night and under. If you don't mind staying a little off the strip the orleans on Tropicana is a great option for a good rate anytime of the year, and seems to be a good clean hotel with a good atmosphere. On the strip you can usually find a good deal at Bill's gambling hall (formerly barbary coast) and its in a good spot. The tropicana, hooters, sahara, circus circus, excalibur, and stratosphere are the cheapest on the strip but each is older, a little more run down, and from what I read on some travel sites are either hit or miss. So pick a down time to go and you will be able to afford one of the better hotels on the strip. If not, try www.travelworm.com they usually have good rates and for a lot of reviews and ACTUAL pictures from hotel travelers try www.tripadvisor.com . ENJOY your trip and I hope these tips are helpful to you.

If you're going on a weekend when there's a big event in town, you're going to pay top dollar - because the hotels can get it! (I went out one weekend when Oscar DeLaHoya was fighting, and because I booked early enough I paid less than $100 a night for NYNY, and someone else who booked a month before was paying $700 a night for the same kind of room!)

If you're going Sunday-Thursday, you're going to pay significantly less anyway.

As far as the best deals on the Strip for the money. NYNY and Luxor are on the cheaper end and are worth the money. MGM Grand is a little more, but also worth it.

Mirage, TI, Caesars, and Paris are on the higher end of middle. Wynn, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, and Venetian are top tier.

Excalibur, Riviera, and Tropicana are cheap but NOT worth it! I would not recommend those to anyone!

If you're still shopping for deals - www.vegas.com - it's thru USAirways and often a better package deal than anyone else. Otherwise, I'd recommend using the hotel's individual websites to price and book.

The Venetian is not reasonable, it's one of the more expensive resorts. The stratosphere ( but it's a little out of the way ), the Imperial Palace ( but it's certainly not the nicest/newest ), the sahara ( also not the nicest ) circus circus ( but lots and lots of kids ) the tropicana are all the least expensive resorts on the strip

The best two hotels on the strip that are reasonably priced are in this order:

Luxor - Great hotel. Everything you would want or need are inside. Also, they just opened a new super club called LAX.

Next, is NewYork NewYork. Very nice and also priced right.

You can't go wrong with either one. But my preference is Luxor.

Enjoy.

I went for the first time last month and stayed at the NewYork. I thought the hotel was great and the location was very central.

RV hookups.
The older motels, 1950's and 1970's made.
Fun City Motel. near the damned stratosphere.
Watch suicidal bodies fly off it. Possiblities endless. It does happen. An occasional free base jumper will jump off it too. With parachute.

About in the middle of all the ones listed already is the Flamingo.
Nice atmosphere, good swimming, good location and you're not paying for glitz and glamour. But if you want that then the Mirage and/or MGM is yours.

I agree with Luxor and NYNY. Luxor is nicer but NYNY has a much better (centralized) location. I'd stay at whichever one gives you the best price. All things equal - I would choose NYNY because of its accesibility to other properties.

It depends what you mean by "'best". When I take into account accommodations, price and location I would say The Imperial Palace.
