well first off, if you want to go swimming while on your period, your going to have to wear a tampon. if you wear a pad, it will tear all to shreds, and it'll be really embarrassing for you. but, i starting using tampons when i was thirteen, so personally i don't see why you can't wear tampons. but it's essentially up to you. and since you have a light flow, and you a beginner (if you do decide to use tampons) start off with slender, slims, or lites.you can probably find all of these at walmart or target. hope this helps.

Um, sorry, but you'll need to wear a tampon. And no, you aren't too young. No offense, but if your mother doesn't realize that you need tampons for swimming, she's a cruel woman. Your period will temporarily freeze in the water (it's like when you cut your finger - if you run it under water, the bleeding stops). Problem is when you leave the water. Seriously. Invest in tampons. You aren't too young to wear them if you aren't too young to be menstruating. They come in junior sizes. Trust me, if you don't get tampons by the time your swimming lessons arrive, then DON'T GO. I started my period when I was at the beach once without a tampon and it was one of the most humiliating experiences of my life. (I was 13 at the time and my flow wasn't heavy, either). What are you going to do, stay in the water during your period? Your mom needs to - MUST - buy you a box of tampons. You do realize that if you wear a pad in the water everyone will see it, right? It will swell up like a nasty diaper. Repeat after me: not too young to wear a tampon.

p.s. Tampons have nothing to do with virginity. Does your mom know that????!

She probably meant that it's not going to happen exactly 29 days from the date you started. I have a friend that gets it every three weeks, sometimes more! Ugh. I have another that gets it every 40 days. They've both talked to doctors and it's normal. I, myself, had my mom take me to a gynecologist when I was 13, even though I was not sexually active. She prescribed birth control pills, this way you can plan around your period and even skip it.

As far as the day itself, if you're not using tampons (I don't blame you for not wanting to go swimming) you'll know that day if you're having it. You can't wear a pad, I don't know how you could possibly go unless she's thinking just go in the pool while you're having it. That's pretty gross. She might think you're trying to get out of the lesson.

You just have to wait until the day comes, if it starts when you're in the water, you probably won't know anyway.

Oh yeah, if you get cramps, that will warn you it's coming, too.

Good luck!

You should wear a tampon if your going into the water. A very small one will be fine. Your not to young to wear a tampon. It wont take your virginity or any other myths some Lady's believe. Ask your mom or another older lady if your to embarrassed to buy you a very light flow one and you should be OK.

You MUST wear a tampon or a moon/diva cup when you are in the water because you WILL bleed into the pool.

Most say the flow stops or slows but it does NOT. It only LOOKS like it does because the water disperses it.

Tampons about the only thing you can do while swimming on your period, if you don't want to have blood all over. Just be sure the string doesn't hang out of your swimsuit. My gf says the trick is to tuck the string between your inner and outer lips lol. Your mom just doesn't want to deal with it and doesn't care cause it won't be her getting embarrassed lol

Just buy a tampon and put it on, don't listen to your mom. It can be very embarrassing if you leave blood on the water. You're not too young to wear a tampon ;)

You can use the tampon. If you want try it and, it won't hurt you. Let your mom show you how use the tampon. If you goes to the swimming, you need to wear the tampon. It will protect getting leaking, or bleeding. Let your mom willl show you what's you should do with them.
