I can assure you and your Dad that you had nothing to do with th eproblem, unless it was you that downloaded the Malware or virus material in the first place.

The lights coming on for a second or two, then going off, indicate a hardware issue more than a software problem.

Let it sit and cool off for a bit, then try to reboot.

Get your power supply tested to be sure it is functioning properly.

Are there any beeps when it tries to boot? If so how many and what is the sequence?

It could be many things, unfortunately. I'm no computer expert, but I've had several problems with my HP desktop over the past year. The main problem turned out to be the video card. The fan on our video card died, which basically then fried/melted the video card. The computer died in the middle of doing something & wouldn't turn back on; since we have replaced it, everything has been fine. If that turns out to be your problem, make sure the power supply for your computer will run the replacement video card; you may have to replace your power supply as well.

Sounds like the hard drive has failed, you should have heard some noise prior to this happening. If the computer is pretty new get a new hard drive, if you have the operating system disk for reinstallation. If not you could end up spending more to get it repaired, in that light think about getting a replacement instead. Hard drive failures are a common occurrence, even it's newer.
