Why is everyone being so defensive of Federer? Please, i'm sure he's not feeling threatened. I think it was really great for Isner, a real confidence booster, especially seeing as he was a wild card and this is his first major. I think he played pretty well, and didn't, as a load of players do, get completely hammered. I think he just proved that one day Federer will be beaten.

it was a good set for him, connecting first services and that helped him to get to the tiebreak. when the tiebreak was 4-4, with Roger serving, was one of the few rallyes Isner could win in the match, with Federer hitting two balls wrong and missing the other... that was the key point, Isner only had to serve, and he did great to clinch that first set.
But after that he kind of relaxed and said "i'm done", apart from Federer finding the key to Isner's serve, and the match was finished when he broke twiece in the second set.
But still, great match for the young american and a fantastic us open for him. if he keeps like that he will be in the top places of the ranking in a few years

John is just an ordinary player, one can't compare him with Roger Federer who is the greatest player in the world but he is a normal human being and not a machine. One can always lose a set. That won't stop him from being the no.1 player in the world.

The only thing that's impressive is it shows he can serve like a monster for a complete set. Karlovic can do that too, he can do that for 2 whole sets, as we saw at Montreal.
It doesn't show Federer is weak at all, if anything it showed that Federer can adapt on the fly, even with a 6'9" guy serving balls that bounce over your head.

It was great to see a youngster taking away a set with so powerful serves. In addition, he did give Federer a scare.
But it will take few more matches under his belt to be in the
top 10. He needs to be consistent in his game, he has a good
serve and volley game.

Any 6'-9" tall guy can string together a monster serving set and win one off even Federer.
I was not at all impressed with him or his game. Roger figured him out and steam rolled him the rest of the way.
