Vanderbilt is ranked about 30th -- while Rice is somewhere between 40-50. In terms of getting a great job, rankings are more important for MBAs than for any other discipline.

If your choice is between these two schools -- then I would say go to Vanderbilt -- unless you want to work in East Texas.

However, if you are capable of getting into a school in the top 20 -- I would suggest any of those schools over these two. Moving from these schools to a top 20 school will greatly increase your choices after an MBA and increase your starting salary. If you want to stay in the South, then Duke, UNC, Virginia and University of Texas are all better choices than Vanderbilt or Rice.

I've included links to the two main MBA rankings.
