what's the reason of blatant disregard of copyrights in taiwan?

That is not the only watchlist Taiwan has been on:

Taiwan had a 'Tier 2' status on the U.S. State Department's Human Trafficking Watchlist until June 12th of this year (2007). By Human Trafficking, the report means fake marriages of "overseas brides", exploitation of overseas blue-collar workers, and the plight of foreign maids.

I cannot offer any in-depth answers as to why there is a blatant disregard of copyrights in Taiwan, and I will not go into any comparisons with Mainland China, since that is not what you are asking for -- many people in Taiwan choose the CDs or DVDs or the free online downloads simply because of the cost -- the market forces of the "economic miracle" at work.

Actually Taiwan being on the list is different then most countries on the list. Taiwan's problem is that it has many servers and websites that openly distribute pirated copies. Their government is trying to crack down on that, but they really suck at it. It's kind of like napster or Kazaa without any lawsuits to make them shut down or search for loopholes.

However, Taiwan is nothing compared to Russia and China where GENUINE stuff is scarcely available. When I lived in China last year, I saw (more than once) fake DVD stands set up in front of police stations and cops actually looking through the DVD's and buying them and entire streets with nothing but fake crap in them. Not here and there, but everywhere.

Fake stuff if still readily available in Taipei (where ironically all the mainland immigrants live), but has really gotten better. Taiwan knows that IPR regulations are important if they want a chance of having FTA's or getting special US and European visa-free travel. They've actually improved a lot (being on the "watch list" is actually an improvement and is different from being a IPR violator that they used to be. It's the step you reach before you get removed from the list)

Packa. Packa. Packa. What do you do all day in Taiwan, other than sit around and find things to criticize about this place? I'll tell you one thing of which I am fairly certain--your intellectual property, if your questions are any indication, is not likely to be looted. I tire of your negativity. This place is not like where you came from. You know that, I know that. I have tried, over and over and over, to convey to you that you would be happier if you accepted the differences, instead of concentrating on the deficiencies you accuse us of ignoring. Get over it, and get a life here. You'll be the happier for it.

Poor industrialists:
"It's all a plot. Against you and ME! To steal your brilliant ideas! But moreso MINE! Keep sending your ideas! (To ME) So **I** can benefit by putting your ideas onto plastic and taking credit and selling your image attached to the plastic! MWHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! "

Did anyone every think how many jobs has 'piracy' created? How many peoples mouths are fed for the simple cost of some measly CD's so people can feel slightly happier to listen to weird noises (produced by junkies out of the streets of Los Angeles) coming from electronic boxes they already paid their seven months salary for. Nooo... we wouldn't want those Thais and Chinese people to benefit from all those products they CANT EVEN AFFORD anyways. All that money should go to 1 place. Give it to that guy who already owns seven houses and 20 Porsches and 5 swimming pools and 6 alimony porn star wives.

"YOU FOOLS. I OWN YOU ALL!!!
MWHAHAHAHAAAA! Now you will see.... USER FEES! For just a little.... then we can JACK up the costs for what they could see performed for minimal costs 50 years to 100 years ago before there even was recorded pieces of plastic! Next we can invest in bottled WATER! And spread stories about how UNSAFE it is to drink horrible publically TREATED water from those COMMIES! YESSS... CREATING PROBLEMS THAT NEVER EXISTED TO PROFIT MY BANK ACCOUNT!

Speaking of intellectual property... Hows all your lawsuits against youtube and gnutella and e-mule and utorrent going? Are you feeding some more lawyers kids for your egos? Are you done sucking the creativity out of/ enslaving talented musicians and entrapping young 'musicians' with little talent, nice bodies (temporarily) and large drug and alcohol addictions YET?

Hmm. I feel for the iipa. I really don't.
maybe... just maybe the disregard of copyright law is because people who WORK for a living need INFORMATION ACCESS and to take a MINOR PLEASURE with the sh#tty universe, unlike Lawyers who exist to try and keep our heads stuffed in the sand and creativity on a leash under the military industrial complexes heroin control. Go back to America and get yourself another pet lawyer.

You may notice I feel very strongly pro-filesharing. Blatant disregard is an overstatement! HARMLESS Information is not meant to be boxed. Its a different issue with something that can be used to kill. But I have no sympathy at all for IPAA or even much for inventors too cowardly to allow scientific re-creation or testing of their theory/ discovery and hiding behind their lawyer. Thats just benefitting rich snake oil salesmen who have many pet lawyers.

The authorities here are happily goose stepping along you should be happy to notice. Saving us all from those horrible pirates. Go back to petting your ever so intellectually protected hello kitty dolls and Disney fuzzy toys. We wouldn't want Steve Jobs or Bill Gates or their buddies to get poorer. Its more amusing than sad that for 11 years a replica of Disneyland existed in China, and they didn't even NOTICE that in their bank accounts. NOW its a problem. If they didn't get their money for essentially doing NOTHING but transferring information... oh NO!-- Thats one less heart/kidney transplant kidnapping of some nameless poor Indian for the rich persons benefit! He couldn't afford to pay for his brain to be transferred into a robot in 25 years! I feel terrible.

Maybe every time I TALK to somebody here on Yahoo answers I should be paid real cash! Thats a bang-up idea. That'll really help all those people who just want to figure out how to get to a waterfall and probably don't care to go pay the so called 'tourist departments' who really are shills for the government affiliated mafia. We wouldn't want a free market or anything. That will ensure 'intellectual protection'

Yes, I really feel Metallica's pain. thats a lot less crack they can purchase for sitting on their keysters for 10 years.

This is one area I am happy to leave the PC lineup for. Amazingly it feels quite good to rant! Thats why you are here, Packa! Am I right?

Truth should never be hidden. Defending the IPAA is like saying that China's government is a legitimate institution that uses good methods to maintain power. They are the most obvious symptom for what is wrong with Western culture today and the reason for the world in general turning away from respecting us. That and my ranting! :).
