After January 2008, Some plumbers merchants and heating spares centers will not sell gas carrying parts to anyone not corgi registered, do you agree and why?

That's the point Marylin, it cost me a lot of money to train, to buy specialised eqipment and to remain registered, £29.90 call out and £30 per half hour is not extortion, but that is what the company I work for charge.

My question is, why does it take *months* to implement policy changes like this? Why can't they just implement it tomorrow, or this afternoon?

I partially agree.

A fair amount of household disasters and accidents and sometimes deaths) occur from people either having a session of DIY or cowboy handymen who don't actually know what they are doing.

And dealing with something such as gas can be very dangerous if performed incorrectly. When you have a corgi registered handyman coming to repair your boiler or something, you have piece of mind that the job being done is in the hands of a registered professional.

But the downside is that it does take independence away from people wishing to perform a little DIY, and also it means that people who are CORGI registered can charge extortinate amounts especially on emergency jobs that need doing ASAP because there is nobody else who could do it.

Its like you wouldn't let a builder massage your wife, but you wouldn't mind letting a registered masseur do it.

No I don't, in my opinion it's just another way to stop someone from fixing it themselves and save money. The BIG picture is you'll have to call them and pay the inflated price set by them to get it installed.

Good example, just look at the vehicles we drive today. Most people can't even work on their own cars today because of all the computer and electronic garbage they have installed on them cupcake.

Have a nice day.
