I like real better because a lot of the artificial ones I've seen don't look even close to the real ones. Also the real ones have the classic scent and half the fun is going out, picking the best tree, and cutting it down (buying the pre-cut ones if that's what you do, lol).

I have never used a real Christmas tree before, so I would like to try that once. Otherwise, I prefer artificial.

The way I see it, I really cant enjoy my christmas or my christmas tree if I am obligated to clean up after it every day. My focus needs to be on other things- more important things. That is why I buy an artificial tree. That way, when the christmas season is over, I saftly tuck it away in storage until the next year. Christmas trees are expensive and if you have the money (and a maid) go for the real tree. But for me, I want to be saving my money for presents and hosting christmas parties and giving to local charities. And I am not an enviormentalist but I assume that it is probably not good for the enviorment to be cutting down all those trees solely for the purpose of displaying them in my livingroom with decorative lights.
So I think you can show true christmas spirit without the real tree. We have had fake ones for years and they never seem to destroy our holiday spirit.

real trees of course! but why? because like you said they smell nice and without a real tree christmas just wouldn't be the same! but this is another reason real trees are better for the environment too! almost all pine trees on farms are made for one purpose, to be turned into christmas trees! there are about 500,000 acres of christmas trees in production for growing Christmas Trees in the U.S. each acre provides the daily oxygen requirements of 18 people. christmas trees are also recycleble unlike most fake trees! fake trees usually are imported from china where christmas trees are made of metals and plastics. the plastic material, typically PVC, can be a potential source of hazardous lead and dangerously hurt or kill children! the working condition of the people at the factories are horrible and disgusting they only get paid $100 a month too! if that! the USDA also quartined artificial trees because they had a wooden middle poles that had a dangerous beetles in them! many artificial trees contain PVC and which when released is te most potentially harmful man-made chemical ever known! once in our air it can cause cancer, damaging immune functions and impairing children's development. so artificial trees can't even be recycled! i think its clear as far as which tree is overall better and better for the environment! the real, traditional christmas tree!

artificial.
when i was born, my mom and dad had just boughten a house and my oldest sister was off to college, so you can imagen that money was scarce.
well my mom spent $7 on an artificial tree, thinking that it was a good size and christmas was a good time to cheer up the family.
believe it or not, its been 13 years since we've had that tree, and not a single limb has broken off OR ANYTHING.
i'd never replace that tree, even if you paid me a million dollars. i have so many great memories, from my first teddy bear and barbie to my first cell phone and chi.
my sisters and parents all agree that the tree is indeed important, and thats why i choose artificial.
you can keep it forever [:

I prefer real because like you said the smell is great and the real trees are like authentic. But I do have a very small artificial one for my room but it's just because its a little one. But in my living room I definitely have the real thing!!! I usually put mine up the 1st Sunday Of Advent. (: And I just love your Christmas questions!!! I can tell you love the Christmas Season like I do and you can't wait for it to finally come!!! Well don't worry if people think you're wierd or anything because I'm right here with ya! (:
If you post more Christmas questions, I will too!!!

Aint nothin' like the real thing baby. The olfactory senses are important stimuli when it comes to making it a "real" old time Christmas. I usually don't get my (real) tree until the fifteenth or so. I dig out my little 2 ft. tall ceramic tree around the 1st of December and plug it in but it doesn't really feel Christmasy to me until the good pine smell of a real tree pervades the room.

I enjoy an artificial tree.I know that you can pretty much decorate and do the same thing with a real tree that you can do with an artificial tree. The color I love is white and I don't have to worry about buying another one.

never say never ;-) i haven't had a real tree for years. i've been in houses with real trees and haven't seen the big difference. you can still get the pine smell from candles and other christmas decorations. artificial trees can be a drag, digging them out of the garage, and they can get dusty or clogged with tinsel but they have to be much much easier than the real thing. also you don't have to worry about how to dispose of them after. or that you are killing a tree. anyhow, unless you chop them down yourself, most real trees are already weeks old by the time they get to you. who needs that?
