Anerican football is popular because most of us went to a school that had a team, so we grew up with it. A major factor in its popularity now is ease in betting on games. People are always more interested in something that may make them some extra money.
As for an international lack of interest in baseball and basketball, what century are you stuck in? Take a look ot the growing numbers of non-U.S.-born players in both.
NASCAR is American. We like big cars with big engines that make lots of noise. Drag racing does that even better.

So whats your actual Question?
Why don't Americans follow suit with the rest of the world and drop to their knees for Football(soccer)?
Easy answer.
They don't have to. They find soccer, from my personal experience, boring. They prefer faster paced games such as football and basketball.
Baseball is on the decline. Nascar is booooooring.
But to Americans, Soccer is equally boring. To them, watching the 22 kick a ball around for 90 minutes is dull, uninteresting.
And I don't care what your opinion is, but at the end of the day, they have a right to dislike it. It is their right to hate soccer as much as you hate American Football or Nascar.
I am English, and I am a lover of American Football, and Basketball, as Well as English Football and Rugby, so I am not biased.
If the Americans choose to dislike a Sport the way the rest of the world Dislikes Americans and their sports, it is still their Right to dislike it, and Nobody has the right to demand that they love football, or any internationally popular Sport, and Nobody has the right to Question their choices in Sports, because it is their right to choose which sports they like.
To answer your other Question, College Football and the NFL are popular because they are fast paced games, similar to Rugby, although it is more for the Experience than the game itself. The Experience of watching a football game, of being in the roaring stadium throughout the game, is almost awe-inspiring. Its an amazing sight to see. Football is an American Sport, it is the one great game the Americans have invented, (Basketball was actually invented by a Canadian while he was in the United States, so I will credit the invention of that game to the Canadian man) and as such, they love the game of football.
Why the hillbillies, hicks and rednecks love nascar, I cannot tell you, because it is horribly boring, but like I said, it is their right to love whichever sport they should choose to like.
If the Americans don't want to take suit with the rest of the World and love internationally popular sports such as Football and Rugby, they DONT HAVE TO. and it is not your place, nor anybodys, to say your sport is better, just because the rest of the world thinks it is.
