Knock Nevis was the largest ship ever built to date; she's been used as a floating storage tank for decades now,\.
The largest operating ship is the Emma Maresk, as was said; carries 10,000 yes folks TEN THOUSAND 20 foot containers!

The "Nock Nevis", formally known as the "Jahre Viking" and prior to that the "Seawise Giant".
It is an oil tanker. It measures 1,504 feet (458 meters) long and 225 feet (69m) wide.
When fully laden with the capacity of 4,240,865 barrels of oil the it has a displacement of 825,614 GLW (Gross Laden Weight) metric tons. It has an unladen weight is 564,763 tons. It could hold the St Pauls cathedral four times over.
