Alchemy and astrology are related. Alchemy has a long history but was probably at its height in Europe during the 15 to 17 centuries. Laboratory alchemy was the percursor of modern chemistry and pharmacology. It was tied in with philosophical alchemy, which was a spiritual path in which the alchemist was trying to perfect himself just as he was trying to draw pure essences and create 'perfect" materials in the laboratory. People think that alchemy was a pseudoscience in which men were trying to get rich by turning lead into gold. There were people doing this, but this was a corruption of the science and mysticism of alchemy.

Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Modern (17th century or so) Europeans believed in astrologer and scientists at that time gave credence to astrologer and the movement of the celestial spheres. They performed their experiments in accordance with planetary tables to make sure that the "energy" was right. They also equated metals with the planets. They believed that the planets and metals had spiritual properties or counterparts that they would meditate on in a way similar to the way people meditate on the "chakras" in certain forms of yoga mysticism.

There are a few alchemy Web sites. The best--although it is very scholarly--is based in England.

Astrology is the study of the planets, stars, asteroids, sun and moon and how they influence human behaviour dependant on their position in the heavens when we were born. An astrology chart is an individual map of the sky at the moment of our birth.

Alchemy is the study of mineral interactions either chemically or applied metaphorically to represent spiritual accomplishments. Alchemy, like astrology is an ancient study. Alchemy originated in Egypt, India and China possibly about 5000 years ago.

Astrology and Alchemy have similiar goals, to study, understand to to full "know" the deepest truths of the self.

Astrology is relatively independent of religious and spiritual attachments. Alchemy on the other hand has a strong spiritual basis in Christianity as well as many other religions.

No they aren't a religious thing necessarily and they're not related in the slightest. Alchemy is the belief that certain metals and chemicals have magical properties and when combined in the right way you can achieve impossible feats such as turning any metal into gold or producing a potion for eternal life. Astrology is the study of how the stars and planets affect our everyday lives and our personality. When you read your horoscope in magazines, that's a mock version of astrology.
