apart from this it also gives you power to get your issues solved quickly, national issues like Kashmir, LOC, River link project and many major and minor issues touching all aspects can not be tackled with multi party bosses blocking or strangling the Cabinet decisions at many stages. Look at the Nuke deal, Looks at the Iran Gas Pipe Line.. Look at the Liberalisation and Privatisation policies. Not a inch can be moved without support of allies.. Burning issue of Population control, Pollutions of Air water is not addressed seriously. But Waste of Time is more in walkouts , fights, abuses, shouting. This 60 years gone and many parts of India are not linked with roads, electricity, shcools, hospitals, bridges, rails .. Poor are dying without food and rich are dying out of threats from Kidnappers demanding ransom.
We can not travel in security in trains, on road We can not enjoy the money we have earned legitimately.

In a country with such a vast population and so varied regions, how could one expect two partes only to contest the elctions.
If you look into th history of elections in India, in the first election Congres &,Communists were the prime contestants. Yet a splinter of Congress headed by Kriplani also contested.
Now so many are there in the field.
Most of the parties are splinters of Congress only except BJP.BJP was a cow belt party ( aregional party) only.By playing Hinudtva card it has tried to emege as a national party but could not do so.No doubt it ruled for 8 years not as single party but a combine.
Congress is the oldest party with a history and traditons and it only would survive.

India is democratic country. I agree with the concept but I do not think it is workable in India. India being country with diverse culture and religion, multiparty set up is not so bad as it looks to be. What we are lacking is moral conduct having no principles. At the same time greed for powers compels our politician to work in coalition. As our great ambassador to US said the other day that our politicians are not mature enough to understand what is good or bad for the country. Some times the cost of mid term election though unbearable, it is still less than democracy we cherish in our country. Two-party system as ado vacated by the learned author will not eliminate the evils of the society

Which two parties ? All those who were in congress joined BJP. People change colours according to the opportunities. What is the guarantee for the character of people.

There should be basic minimum qualification for politics and a performance analysis by some independent agencies. Election manifesto should be their project report for the next 5 years. If they fail to perform they should be terminated without notice. This procedure shouild be followed for the bureucracy also.

Yes, but why do you want to start a new party which boldly proclaims only we need a two party system in this country?

That is why there are numerous parties every where in this country.

:-) Hey I am not kidding you. I am telling the truth and serious. One reason for numerous parties is some one thinks many erst-while leaders of different parties were ideologically good. Therefore, a new starter in Tamil Nadu politics has based his politics on those opposing political figures and their ideas.

It is not possible to implement the two party system now after 60 years of independance since such a proposal cannot be now passed in Parliament where a huge number of political parties with heterogenious character are already represented. Every small party is a fragmentation of another bigger party formed by seperation of dissatisfied leaders of bigger parties who are enjoying the leadership of a party now who will not again like to go back to a bigger party . The vested interests of leaders of such many smaller parties will not allow the parties to merge back with bigger parties because these leaders will again loose their seperate identity achieved on seperation and therefore the country cannot come back to two party system. It was possible if it was done immediately after independance by providing it in the constitution itself or by amendments during the early stages of independance when hardly a few political parties existed in the country. It is too late now though it is far better if it can be done even now.

I disagree why two pary rule we can convert it into a one party state lke China.Build high ways 6-10 lanes.Put all those who oppose in jail.We can make Bombay a Shahghai.Politians who are corrupt can be hanged as in china.

Freedom of press can be practised in Jails.Freedom of relegions, muslim terrorism, relegious riots can all be abolished by banning all relegions. We can hunt down naxals and all causing problems with out fear of human rights.

All these can be done.

Even otherwise, by 2020AD there will only be two parties surviving---
1. Communist party of China, &
2. pak Muslim League
Congress will be absorbed in # 2 above, & BJP will be disqualified by # 1 .
