The playoffs would suck without the Yankees. The playoffs without the Yankees is like having no gas in the tank of your car.

No. Refreshing in three ways.

One, we've seen the Yankees act before. I now LONG for an October without Torre's darksome glower, craggy schnozz, and inanimate demeanor (somehow considered worthy of showing on tv again and again and again -- really, the Gatorade cooler would be a more interesting dugout subject) in the postseason.

Two, the media wouldn't know what to do without their phone-it-in Yankees storylines, and that would be amusing entertainment alone.

Three, there is an entire generation of Yankees fen operating under the delusion that a playoff berth is their birthright and foreordained annual destiny. This needs to be proven wrong, no matter how destructive it is to the faith. Forty years of wandering the baseball desert is warranted. (And it cannot be only one season without October, because then they'd all beyotch and moan about how that one year was soooooo awful. Three years, minimum.)

Mostly the first one. I'm dead tired of the Cardinals schtick as well, particularly how last year the Tigers gave it away to them.

No, not at all. The best playoffs were in 1986 and the Yankees weren't involved.

a) NLCS game 6 - Mets vs. Astros -- best NLCS game ever.
b) Red Sox vs. Angels - great series
c) Mets vs. Red Sox - this series had everything and more....
and yes...it had no Yankeez.

I gotta admit, I got a lot of excitement out of watching the Angels beat the Yanks in the ALDS a few years ago.

No it wouldn't. It would be pleasant. I want to see someone new in. Not the Yankees for the 12th straight year or whatever it is now.
