Omegas are very prone to crank position sensor failure you need to get a code read out from your diagnostic port this will tell if any fault codes are stored in your ECU.

Have you tried all the silly things? Breaking down HT lead? Earthing? Spark plug leads? Tensioner on starter motor? Solenoid? Still sounds a bit like earthing if its intermittent.
