Don't send both. Spend the money to develop these
countries in producing their own crops. It is not only
cheaper but also productive in the long run.
This however depends if the money reaches the
proper channel and not the corrupt bureaucrats.

Rice is one food that most people are not allergic to. A little rice cooks up to a lot of rice. Rice fills the stomach and does not upset it, normally. (people with upset stomaches who NEED to eat are told to eat plain rice). Plain rice is very good tasting if that is how you are used to eating it. Rice can be stored if really sealed up, well.
Did you stop to think how your question actually sounded? Seriously. Remember what happened to Marie Antoinette, because she'd never gone hungry, had grown up entirely in the castle, and simply figured that if you are out of bread, you DO eat cake.

Wow, for a moment there I though you were serious. The truth of the matter is though, rice is the best thing to send them. It's dry and last quite a long time. You can add almost anything to it from seaweed, to fish, to herbs, and vegetables. All that's needed to cook it is fire, and water. It's a carbohydrate so you can survive on it for a long time. Poverty stricken countries survive on rice, and the Asian countries eat it voluntarily. You can make it sticky like a desert, or cake it together like a breakfast potato. You can even make rice wine out of it. I hope this answers your question, but for now, it's the cheapest and the best way for survival.

It is the whole "rice expands in your stomach, cooks up quick and fills you up" thing.
You are right hough, plain white rice is awful. Even at the VERY least you have to put soy sauce and salt and pepper on it. I eat mine with sugar and cinnamon but I doubt they hand out sugar to starving children.

Basically it's cheaper. Would you rather send $100 to feed 100 children rice for a week or send $100 and feed 10 kids "gourmet" meals for a week? I think everyone who spends their money on charitable foundations want their donation to go to as many kids as possible, even if it means they survive off rice and water.

For starving children, you need something bland tasting and gentle so it does not shock their digestive systems.
Rice also provides slow burning energy and will keep them going longer.
They will not be used to all the attatives and chemicles in potato chips.
Also, rice is healthy and we want to keep these kids healthy.

We send rice because it's one of the most nutritious and versatile foods. It can be boiled, or made into flour to make breads.
Oats and peanuts are also good foods that we send as well.
Dan Quayle taught you how to spell potato, didn't he?

I guess we could, but rice is cheap so you can send much more of it, it's healthy, and it's also filling and contains a lot of carbs to energize them.
