The other day I was driving and I went to turn my AC on and my car crapped out. I have no idea what is wrong but I had a friend look at it and we know its not firing. We checked the timing belt, distrubutor and other basics and everything looked okay. Any ideas?

You need to check the basics and eliminate what it is not.

1. Have someone stand behind your car while you turn the key from off to on several times can they hear the fuel pump kick on. It makes a whine sound when it does ...

2. If it does or doesn't make a sound go to the schrader valve on the fuel rail and release the pressure until it stops shooting, use a towel to catch the fuel. Then crank the vehicle over for 30 sec's then try releasing the pressure again did it come out or shoot out just like before if not could be a fuel pressure problem. (this is a crude way and not 100% reliable but can be help full) if the fuel does not shoot out the schrader valve and it just runs out like not pressure is on the line it could be a fuel pump or something else inline bad fuel filter etc.

3. If it has fuel pull a plug wire and use a long screw driver and stick it into the plug wire end and hold the screw driver about 1/16-1/8" away from a piece of metal. Have someone crank the car while holding it near some metal and see if it sparks if it does it has fire if it does not you have no fire. Check all the wires to make sure it's not a bad coil if all the plug wires have no fire you need to look at the coil now.

4. Go to the coil and check for fire at the coil if you have no fire at the coil could be a bad coil or no reference signal from the ecu AKA (cam angle sensor, crank sensor, other sensor) you can use a probe or test light on the coil to see if their is a reference signal to the coil no signal then I would look at one of the above sensors.

5. If it is not something simple like coil pack, fuel filter, fuel pump and it's a crank angle sensor or cam angle sensor you may want to take it to a mechanic.

If you purchase a Chiltons or Haynes for your vehicle it will show you how to test the cam or crank angle sensor it will also give you a trouble shooting list to go through.

Cam sensor?
Crank sensor?
Ignition module?

Could be a number of things.
