My husband and I have wedding checks written out to both of our names and I have a few questions on how we need to sign the back of them for deposit into our joint checking.

Do we both need to sign them?

And some are written with my maiden name, how should I sign those? Should I sign both maiden and new married name?

Thanks!

If the check is made out to both, you both need to endorse the check. If the check is in your maiden name, you will have to endorse it with your maiden name and then your married name.

Oh and don't try to get cash back from that deposit. It's just easier to deposit all the checks and get your cash later.

Some of it depends on how the check is written. Is it Mr and Mrs Smith? Or Mr OR Mrs Smith. If there is an "or" techicallly only one person needs to sign. If it is an "and" then both should be signing. As for the maiden name vs. married name, I would check with your bank to see if they have standards they go by in that situation.

From my past experiences, you should first off go into the bank and do the transaction. Make sure that your husband is with you and you both have your id's. The proper way to do it is to have the person whose name on the check sign first, then the next person. As far as your maiden name on the check, you are just depositing so as long as you have your account number they shouldn't have a problem.......Hope this helped.
