I see all these supposedly brilliant comments about Craig, and he deserves them for what he did, but how about the (did)Honorable Jim McGreevey who was carrying on a homosexual love affair behind the backs of his wife and children while Governor of New Jersey? Where were all the cutsie remarks then? Do you suppose that they think what he did was OK?

Expousing family values and maintaining a wife and family as a front while carrying on a homosexual love affair is not hipocracy? What else could you call it?

But, but, but Clinton committed perjury in front of a Grand Jury.

that is the true distinct difference that separates the 'left' from the 'right'. not that there are 'hypocrites' on both sides who abuse their office of public trust for there are plenty examples of both.

"But let there be no mistake: McGreevey was forced to resign because he was a corrupt politician who shared more in common with the men in his administration now serving time in jail than he would care to believe."

this quote is from a gay publicition listed below.

McGreevey betrayed his family, his office, the people who elected him and most of all the gay community and yet he was hailed as heroic by the left.

when someone from the left is 'outed' or caught in wrong doing, he is supported, excused and allowed to continue in government positions of trust.

when someone from the right is 'outed' or caught in wrong doing, he is forced to resign and no longer allow to represent his party or continue in public service.

i wish they hyporcracy would end and anyone who is 'outed' or caught in wrong doing faced the same consequenced as the other, either excuse and support all or oust and condemn all. this distinct difference does not serve us, the public they are suppose to represent.

congress is full of men, some good, some bad and some who have sever personal problems that will surface. they should be dealt with as such by us all for they weaken us as a nation and as people who want our leaders to explifiy the best that is in us not the worse. until such time as all are measured by the same yardstick, justice will not be served and we, the american people, are the losers.

i just read the other posts, to correct a statement made: mcgreevey didn't 'confess' until he was outed but they make my point, he was lauded as brave and courageous.

This must be the gay Senator Larry Craig rebuttal question.

understand all the comments from the Left about Larry Craig but where were they when McGreevey fessed up?

I can't say that anything you have posted is the truth, since you have no facts. I would like for you to post a link to your ramblings, but Larry Craig is, and will still be guilty of of his homosexual activities while visiting the air port latrine. Soliciting under cover cops for sexual favors while representing the GOP as a Senate leader isn't best choice for governing the USA. Spinning a non issue over to the Democrats is typical of you neocon trolls. Don't forget mark Foley and Dennis Hastert with their affairs and the homo cover-up, my GOD these neocons will tell lies about anyone to stay in office.

I don't understand why the public is supposed to care about the private lives of these officials. If the people of his state were happy with what Sen. Larry Craig was doing in the Senate, isn't that enough? You've elected someone you hope will represent your policy agenda, what difference does it make if they do things you disagree with?

That being said, I think people had a different reaction to Gov McGreevey because 1) he came out of his own doing and wasn't arrested for anything and 2) as a public representative, he never engaged in a virulent anti-gay agenda which makes him perhaps less of an explicit hypocrite than Sen. Craig who many assume is indeed gay.

Like I said though, I don't think private behavior should matter in either case.

He left, as soon as he made the announcement.
He was a homosexual, but he wasn't arrested for lewd public conduct.
A good many men(and women) are conflicted by their homosexuality, especially if they have been taught that the act itself is immoral and they want to see themselves as moral.
McGreevey is a perfect example, he is someone who tried and tried to be 'normal', to be moral in the lights of his Church. Not going to happen, hes since left the Catholic Church, but his need of religion is so strong hes going to an Episcopalian school and he hopes to become a priest there.
If Craig hadn't had the arrest, we still wouldn't know about him, and he would still be senator. If we didn't have all this attitude about homosexuality, Idaho would still have the senator who has done well by them for so many years.
So did Idahoans benefit by dumping Craig? Or did their homophobia cost them a senator they were happy to have reelected several times?

The Craig affair was a sad one, as was McGreevy, I for one, want to go hide behind Democracy In America and pretend beyond hope that lawmakers become worthy of America's proud and bold history, a model of freedom for the world.

Issue is hypocisy not homosexuality. McGreevey fessed up. Craig voted against gay rights and against gay marriage and insists that he is not gay. HYPOCRISY. As for McGreevey, he ranks right up there with Giuliani for cheating on his wife and having it come out publicly before the private discussion with the wife. Shame on them all.

Where was the liberal outrage when Gerry Studds was playing 'pork the page' with some kid?

How about when Barney Frank's boyfriend (aka 'Hot Bottom') was running a male prostitution ring out of Frank's Georgetown apartment?

The hypocrisy of today's politicians is truly remarkable. It's really time to flush the entire legislature and start over.
