OK first of all romaine lettuce when frozen and then thawed gets mushy and gross... Been there done that...I will not feed it to my turtles and I hope you won't feed it to your Tort....

The way I think is....if I won't put it in my mouth...I ain't putting it in my turtles either....Would you eat mushy, yucky lettuce..probably not!!

And the damp paper towel thing works....I do that!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes even in the fridge in a plastic container divided with sheets of damp paper towel it freezes......

Romaine is not expensive..and fresh is better then rotten

Since I don't know a thing about turtles, I looked it up and this is what I found. Although it doesn't specifically address soggy Romaine lettuce, I would think if I was a turtle, I wouldn't like it. Then again, the turtles I do know a little about live in the water, and they eat soggy stuff all the time. Hope this site and its link help you.

Russian: no fruits, meats, or pellets, please.

Try "endive, escarole, dandelion greens, watercress, frisee, red-leaf lettuce, radicchio, shredded carrot, turnip greens (small amounts), collards (small amounts), opuntia, romaine (small amounts), and occasional pumpkin or butternut squash. The mixed salad diet is low in fiber so it is helpful to sprinkle with Bermuda grass hay that has been ground to a powder (a coffee grinder works well). Dust the food with calcium daily, and if the tortoise isn't kept outdoors in natural sunlight, also use a combination calcium-D3 product a couple of times a week. It is also helpful to keep a cuttlebone (with the back removed) in the enclosure so your tortoise can nibble on it if she or he feels the need for more calcium." You can try, but he might not eat it. To keep romaine fresh, it needs to be kept between layers of slightly damp paper towels in that big zip lock bag in the fridge, not freezer.

Just rinse it off and let it thaw out before you give it to him. Then it should be fine!
