"i love you" can be more platonic -like loving a friend or family member or anything for that matter -its more friendly.
In love -is more romantic, more intimate, sometimes driven by a physical desire more than a friendly one.

About $25, LOL, Just kidding. Ok, let me put it like this. I loved my ex girlfriend, she was a great woman and we got along well, but we never really connected. Now as for the woman I am with now and have been with, I am in love with her. I connect with her on every level. I feel in in my bones that she is the woman I am to be with. When I am with her, I do not even look at other women or think of how my life could be better, we are soul mates.

Oh, this is an EASY one!!! (for me, anyways)

I can tell A LOT of people I love them...and MEAN it...I love my friends, I love my family....but, when it comes to the man in my life, I am so deeply IN LOVE with him that every and any thing he says or does affects me. And it's not that way with people I simply love. I can accept their choices as simply THAT...but even when he ignores me, it has an effect.

In a sense, I live and breathe HIM, but I don't do that with the other people in my life.

I love a lot of people, I even love ice cream. However, being in love is a much deeper emotional feeling than just love. I love my friends and family, I am in love with my husband. I would miss my family if anything happened to them, but I would be OK. I know it would be hard to go on without my husband, even though I know in the end, I would be OK. The emotional loss would be so much deeper with my husband than my sisters. That is because I am in love with him.

Loving someone means you simply really care about them. Being in love means you have more intimate feeling toward them.

There didn't used to be a difference, however, people seem to use "I love you" these days as "I like you" because they don't know the difference. So basically, "I love you" means I care but...(insert reason here). "I'm in love with you" means love with marriage potential.

Most guys start with lust for the girl, and it slowly turns into love if she uses her feminine skills properly. We call it all love cause the girl insists it has to be that way.
