There is no way that the US could ever be called communist. It may not be the epitome or a true democracy, but it is the closest thing there is to a democracy in the world. Discussed this with some friends the other day and basically said that what we probably have is something that is closer to some sort of socialism, but it is as close as we are going to get to a democracy. Can you think of a country out there that has more freedom than we do. We still have the right to elect our officials, more of less. We do have the right to elect the house and the senate and in most cases they are there as a checks and balance system to keep the president in control. Ok, in this administration it isn't working so well, and we have a cabinet with a revolving door, but I don't think that this administration can be used as a model for how this country really runs. It is an aboration of how we usually run. With all luck in a year and a half we will have things back to normal and things will run as they should, even if it is democratic or republican. I don't think that any of the people running have the lack of brain power that "W" has.

NO, in Communism everyone is equal not upper class, no middle class, no lower class, everyone is equal! There is NO such place in this World! America is a Democrary where everyone has the ability to run it and be in charge. Not everyone will or even try, but anyone can. Jimmy Carter, a peanut farmer from Georgia, is an example of the little guy becoming the most powerful man in America. Now money is what is needed and even Ross Perot didn't have enough to do it!

We all grew up on "communist bad/capitalist good" and it is so much easier to learn simplistic stuff than the truth, that a society must have a combination of socialism and capitalism in order to succeed. It is not so much that the populace is dumb, it is that we're lazy and want to just be told something that we can believe without it being too uncomfortable.

No it is actually Fascist by nature; completely the opposite of the political spectrum. The description of a communist policy is a ruse that has been used by the Republican Party since 1980 to scare and intimidate the undereducated of this country so as to get their vote.

That's close to fascism. If it was communist, there would be more emphasis on public equality (housing, income, etc.). I think most are more controlled by apathy than by force, which is how a real communist or fascist country would manage things.

Its not in the least bit communistic. Its so against communism that it still sees that failed economic system under everyones bed.
Its so against it that when you want to doom a program all you have to do is start the communist/socialist chant and all reason leaves the room.
Its so against it that when you want to damn a person, cite a forty year old term paper or a news photo hanging in a communist country. Context be damned... if they can spell it they must be one.
Its our folkloric boogeyman.

The dumbing down of the populace isn't necessarily an artifact of control. It's is also one of the symptoms of a dying society.
