Let's celebrate your car is 22 years old! The electric idle valve on the carb top has junk in it's jet. A flake of rust a piece of gasket. Unplug it turn it out blow air into the carb hole and clear the jet on the electromechanical fuel shut off valve. Put it back in and try again. Closing the choke allowed the car to run chokking out blowing black smoke. Just a suggestion; What about new cars $$$ scare you?
