I am in the hotel field. I am French Canadian and I am under the impression that my average(poor) written english skills is what is preventing me to get an hotel manager position in this hotel group. How can I improve my written skills? The position requires the ability to write emails , memos etc..

Take a business writing course...or a writing course at a community college.
It is funny because I write all my boss's e-mails.
There is this book that could help you with writing, I have used it before, but do not need to now because I have taken a lot of courses on writing.
It is called, "The New St. Martin's Handbook"

You just need more practice. You could try getting a pen pal and writing to that person a lot in English. You could also take lessons somewhere, like a nearby collage. (Also, it could be something else preventng you from getting the position you want.)

Dont fall for the Take a class thing. It's a good idea sure but it doesn't work for everyone. I was in writing class and you see where i am? I am not good at writing at all.
Sometimes you just have to study by yourself and learn that way. It may come to you or it may not. so just try it.

Read - primarily novels - by reading you will learn through other peoples writing skills. Reading will help more than taking any classes.

take a class, maybe at a community college or something. most community colleges offer free writing tutoring anyways. good luck!
