It all depends on whether your motherboard supports higher speed RAM. Otherwise it would just downclock that new RAM to ddr2 533mhz speed. Possibly, you might just benefit from the lower latency and tighter timings of the Corsair XMS2.

it depends on your motherboard... Check the specs by the manufacturer, if it supports the 800 RAM then you get better performance, if it does not, then it would run at a lower rate and preform as 533. Be sure all memory in your computer are the same specs because in some motherboards mismatched memory may cause whatever faster memory to not operate at optimum levels. If your motherboard does not support the 800 then you be wasting your money buying the 800, since you gain no performance.

if you will upgrade to a higher memory, yes you can with the same model DDR2 533 (PC2 4200), make sure that your motherboard supports DDR2, otherwise it will not fit, (DDR & DDR2 has different notch location..)

You will have to check with the manufacturer to see if the motherboard will handle it
