I work with a woman who fits the description of "drama queen" to a 'tee'. It'd be funny, but we work on the same project. She demands our supervisor's attention constantly and tries to participate in everything that is going on (regardless of whether it involves her or not). I believe her actions show she's insecure but it still bothers me. Has anyone been in a similar situation? I'm trying to separate myself from her without shutting down and becoming the "workplace mouse" (or whatever the opposite of a drama queen would be).

Suggestions appreciated.

There are plenty of drama queens where I work. Just ignore them. You need to build your own confidence. Try buying a new outfit, getting your hair done, and going into work with a new attitude!!! I don't know how long you have been with the company, but if it were me, I'd tell the chick to shut up, sit down and do some damn work for a change!!!! You may need to speak your mind. That may be the first step towards building your confidence in the office. Good luck!!!

She may indeed be insecure and she may also have ocd or some other personality disorder. There's a book called the Working Wounded that may help you with your problem.

If you do complain to your supervisor, it may ricochet back at you and there'll be even less trust.

Try to utilize her strengths, there must be at least one. Find out what that is and help her focus on that strength if you can.

Perhaps she can also sense that the environment is hostile towards her which feeds into her insecurity.

Some people lack social skills nowadays but can be competent at what they do if given an actual opportunity.

Unless you're the supervisor or team leader it's really not your place to say anything at all . You could be construed as being more of a trouble maker than she is if you keep shooting off your mouth. Do your work and do it to the best of your ability. If the drama queen is that much trouble she won't be there much longer will she?

everybody is bi-polar one way or yet another. all of us have temper swings. call it bi-polar in case you prefer yet I see it as yet another conspiracy from pharmaceutical companies to make greater money by promotion greater drugs to depressed people. If a individual exhibits to many temper swings or "substitute in personalities" the suitable project is to stay away. they may well be risky to themselves and others. Edit: playstation One individual in the back of many Avatars on Y/A may well be an indication of unstability besides. pay attention.
