I am a 24 year old pre-med student. I am a single mom still breastfeeding my 10 month old. I need extremely high grades to get into the med school I want. I currently live in North Dakota, and they will not dismiss you for any of this. I am writing a letter this week. I cannot miss school. Also in my town, you call the court the night before to get the time to report---this can constantly change for an entire month. I cannot arrange daycare at the last minute. I realize it is my duty, and would be happy to serve later or even this summer.

Thanks for help so far. My brother is an attorney, and he says letter is my best chance. At the court I am assigned, you may be dismissed one day; however, you keep coming back for an entire month until picked. You would literally have to keep showing up and not be chosen, and that would take several days. Most of the trials are short shoplifting or DUI cases, but I don't know what I would do if I got chosen for a week long case.

At least in Virginia a non-working mother is excused from serving jury duty. The rule is that you have to serve if you are a working mother.
I know first hand because I was excused from serving on that basis eventhough I had a part-time evening job. I had stated that I worked evenings because daycare was not affordable or easily had for an infant. It was a stretch of the rules but the judge grudgingly accepted it. (It also helped that I showed up the first day to court with the baby in a carriage).
If that doesnt work, my grandmother kinda pulled a fast one once because she did not want to serve. She had a few nervous condition problems (stress made her hands shake) and she pretended to be off her rocker completely. ;)

convince all human beings interior the courtroom they don't choose you on any jury. I have been given out as quickly as on an tried homicide case whilst on voir dire i become asked if I knew everyone in regulation enforcement, and named 4 judges, a pair cops, and 3 human beings interior the D.A.'s place of work. you should convey with you to study interior the jury room, and make helpful the decide and legal professionals see, the two a reproduction of a few provocative newspaper (the Weekly international, or something in Arabic, notwithstanding in case you won't manage to study a word) or the Anarchist Cookbook, or another "exciting" e book. you won't manage to be too blatant via not shaving or bathing for a week, and getting into with outfits the Salvation military could refuse, because it is so glaring it ought to get the decide talking approximately contempt citations.

The fact you have a 10 month old baby should suffice.
Having an infant to care for is in the list of acceptable excuses for being dismissed from jury duty.
Or, you can tell them you have to be in court for you r own trial.

Don't tell. They might think it's just a ploy to avoid jury duty.
Show up when called in. Then during voir dire, skillfully answer questions in a way to indicate prejudice.
Or you could alienate them with an odd appearance. That'll do the trick. Get a Buzz Cut and wear kooky clothes.

Report as directed too,and whatever the circumstances are just think to yourself "what don't they want to hear from a perspective juror" and then add it as the answer to the ? that is asked from the screening.Ex burglary..Tell them you've had your house broken into before..-Rape you've been a victim of domestic abuse. Hate crime ...You are racist. civil matters, are a bit tougher but, something as simple as yes to Gambling,Lottery.

I'm pretty sure that they can't pull you out of college for jury duty. Tell them that you are still in school.
