Hold the screen under a light so you can see it better - if you can see dark patches then that means the screen has smashed and the dark blob is the liquid crystal. This means the screen will never work again and replacing it will probably cost the same or more than buying a new player. Some people can use MP3 players without the screens though, it's just difficult trying to find the songs (iPod Shuffles don't have screens). If your son has a general idea which buttons navigate to which menus and folders without needing to see the screen he'll be alright, just see how he gets on with it. If not and the PC connection still works, you can still plug it in the PC and copy all his songs to a new player if he needs a new one.

It sounds like you may have damaged the LCD Display. It might correct itself as it dries out but I would doubt it. It's more likely that the connections to the LCD have either come off or got damaged during the wash. If the connections are just loose, you could reattach them but to be honest, I wouldn't open a MP3 player for this purpose. My advice, "copy the files to a PC, throw the MP3 away and buy him a new one". Ask him for 50% of the cost as he has to accept some responsibility. If you go through his pockets before washing, you'll have hell to pay and because you didn't thus washing the MP3, you've got hell to pay. Therefore, unless he wants you to check his pockets before each wash, he has to accept some of the responsibility and cost.
Smartest Gal - what's the point of paying Curry's £40 to £60 to repair it when a new MP3 costs as little as £20 and a good MP3 only costs around £30 to £40?

Ha I've done this with 2 mp3 players and 2 mobile phones of my sons as he leaves them in his pockets and i forget to check, I haven't had any luck in getting any of them working so i guess your lucky it still plays music. It might all get back to normal when it dries out thoroughly.

I don't think so. But you could leave it for a few more days and see when everything is dry inside, if the screen will work again.

There's not much you can do but you can go to a shop where they sell electronics like currys etc and ask them if they can fix it for you or if there is anything you can do to fix it. If there isn't try and get another one if he doesn't mind.

When this happens you really need to make sure it dries out completely.
