The basic difference between living a famous and successful life compared to an ordinary life is... one has a defined goal of life... the other devoid of a distinct goal just passes life! Becoming successful in life is not entirely in ones hand... the karma of our previous manifestations plays a significant role! A negative Prarabdha karma can completely mar our efforts!
Still one must always face struggles in life head-on! Life is not an end in itself... it is a journey! The journey in the human form is the most pleasant experience for the soul atman within. The form of a human being is the highest manifest stage in the cosmic life cycle! Only in the human form the soul atman within regains its lost prime pristine pure form!
The crux of human life is... having a burning goal... a passion indulging in which one loses track of time! With all eggs in one basket... human beings easily cross the ocean of Samsara (worldly life)! Having a purpose driven life is the essence of human form... simply passing life for the sake of it carries no meaning!
Most human beings as of date do not have a goal in life... a purpose dear to their heart! Dominated by the ego within... such people suppress the voice of their soul atman that seems to come from within our heart. The voice of our soul atman always guides us on the right path! It is our soul atman that primarily dictates the journey of life!
When young... 11 years of age I had a passion to see and meet God in this life. The voice of my soul atman that I could distinctly hear prompted me so. By 13 years of age I had a definite defined goal of life... I shall meet God in this very life come whatever may! Another 25 years and lo, I realized God in 1993.
Having a purpose in life is not the work of the body... the human form! It is our soul atman within that has manifested the body to work out its karma and not vice versa. The moment complete dross within the soul atman removes... human being gains enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha).
Gaining liberation from the cycle of birth and death is the goal of every soul atman! The purpose of human life is dictated by the needs of the soul atman within. Realizing this fact of life... human beings who form a goal early in life not only remain happy but also become successful and famous in every endeavor of theirs! You can be very successful without being famous. It really depends on the individual as to whether a famous life is right or not - for some people I know it would probably kill them. Not all people are ready for fame or understand that being famous has some drawbacks of its own, such as a very limited amount of privacy, and worse things like the occasional stalker. For me, if I'm successful, I'll be famous too, but it comes with the territory and I love my privacy so fame will be a mixed bag for me if it happens.

As the moon retains her nature, though darkness spreads itself before her face as a curtain, so the Soul remains perfect even in the bosom of a fool.
Akhenaton
c. 1385-c. 1355 BCE, Khemetic (Egyptian) Pharoah
There is no happiness in this world – happiness is only an illusory – darkness.
The nature of the ordinary life: The more you follow your intuition, the better you know that your own life is etched on your true maxims inside you; the result – you will feel happiness and no rampant in the successful life.

An ordinary life... don't think I could handle fame and lots of money, not to keep anyway, either one. A little bit of each has been nice but ordinary is so comfy and quiet and easy to keep for a long, long time.

I dont believe it. The quality of life doesnt depend on our being famous, success, or rich.
There is more to life than just having all of those above.

That really is an excellent question.
Ordinary people are much better off since they are not being misled by those who are telling them how much greater they are than ordinary people. Too much success leads to a delusion.
We are all very great in our own way... it's true.. it really is.

Discovering your family is fun. I was proud of my Nieces at Christmas time getting written off and then singing "I love the have a beer with Gazza"... etc etc... right through the whole family making a suitable rhyme up for each person. Very funny. The same nieces made me very proud recently when my dad had a heart attack. They're geographically closer than any other family members so they took control of the situation, keeping everyone in the loop. HUgs Gazza

I sure don't, fame means no privacy your always hounded by the media one way or another. Success just means you have more money than you know what to do with and end up spending it on stupid things, like drugs and phoney cults.

It's not so good for some. Just look at the news. Drug problems, suicide, scandals and with being famous it all gets publicized.
