It seems that no french companies want to be contacted, for example Orange, (France Telecom), Rue de Commerce, (internet vendor???), amongst others?

I know, it does not help, MINITEL is dead in the water.

Seems strange, they are certainly going to hit the manure soon. To think their internet providers are the same.
Oh yes try Orange in the UK, I wonder, is there any connection with that being the reason why PC world pulled the plug

Interesting responses, however, Orange (FT), dont even reply to letters, and have no internet address!!!, Rue de Commerce, sell thru the internet, no address, Insurance companies do not read their emails and do not respond, General des eaux dont either read or respond when notifying of a major leak, but they all have premium rate phone numbers that means THEY make a profit when you ring. (I am going to get one of those, just think when you get cold calling it costs them...)

ils ont au moins dix ans de retard quand il s'agit de technologie la bas. Bonne chance...

Seriously, there's this cultural thing over there...to get any kind of service, you have to show up in person. They don't treat phone exchanges as real business, and I imagine the same thing is true of internet requests. They figure that if you're serious about something, you'll show up in person to take care of it.

Very irritating when you're trying to get your electricity, phone, etc hooked up...

Mais c'est comme ca.

We like to travel around Europe by car, and I always make our independent arrangements on the 'net. Austria, Germany, and Italy are very internet-savvy, but France is in the stone age. Maybe the Academie Francaise is interfering with internet development so it won't have a chance to corrupt the French language. (I still love France as a place to visit.)

I think you're exaggerating slightly - what I've noticed is that there's quite a lot of variety in the way you can make contact with various agencies. Virtually everyone offers a phone number of some kind, some offer an email address, and some offer an online chat type of environment.

Non Pascalou, but if you have a business you better have and use Internet, more so in tourism.
I never understood why they don't use it more or answer e-mails? in many developing countries you can find Internet cafes in small towns and they are full. Maybe France is not developing anymore!

On est obligés d'avoir internet dans ce monde ?

I mean, of course I have internet at home, and use it daily, but for personal purposes only...
I also understand internet can be a good way to expand your business but there are so many other ways !
If your market is local, I don't think it would be worth spending thousands of € in a web site !?
How did we before the net ?...
