No. There was a book before that called Natura Systema ... Karl Von Linne' wrote it ... I need to know around any area if anyone can help ... please i can't find the answer anywhere and i have to have it for an class assignment

The early scientists that looked at the natural world Called themselves Natural Philosophers. They started collecting all sorts of curios from the time of the Crusades. When you have a heap of stuff you must eventually try to sort them into some category or other . Linnus was the one who came up with a workable classification system for the animal world.

People have been classifying things for all of recorded history and beyond. The question boils down to your opinion on who was the first scientist.

Remember hearing about the ancient Greeks and their four elements (air, water, fire, earth)? That was a classification system.

It was probably much sooner, but the earliest I know of was Charles Darwin with his book "On The Origin Of Species" back around 1860.
