I am a fan of rock or metal music but the only instruments I have is a cello and piano. I'm sick of just listening. I want to play it.

It is possible - have a listen to Apocalyptica if and when you have the chance, I think they prove that rock and metal can be played on the cello quite well!! Start playing it too - by all means!

Absolutely! Three of the founding fathers (and original inductees into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame) were pianists: Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, & Fats Domino. Then there's Elton John ("Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" is one of the GREAT rock 'n' roll songs ever written!). Listen to the great pianists the Rolling Stones have used: Ian Stewart, Nicky Hopkins, Ian McClagen, and currently Chuck Leavell. And yes Tori Amos started out her rock career in a band called Y Kant Tori Read and it was a metal band (future Guns 'n' Roses Drumemer Matt Sorum played in the band), and she still references Led Zeppelin in her shows on piano. Just get the sheet music for songs you like & learn them. Another current popular metal band that incorporates piano (as well as strings) into its sound is Evanescence (Amy Lee is a formally trained pianist). GO FOR IT- LET IT ROCK!

Jerry Lee Lewis did it. I'd stick with the piano, find out what the chords are, play them and build from there. Cello would be interesting to hear. I'd play bass lines on that and see what happens. Just ah idea. Have fun!

If you want to play it, get you a instrument that fits the music.

As I've just said on your other question:

A lot of good rock bands have pianists:

Meat Loaf ~ {Roy Bittan; Mark Alexander}
E-Street Band ~ {Roy Bittan}
Fleetwood Mac ~ {Christine McVie}
Jethro Tull ~ {Ian Anderson; John Evan}
Guns N' Roses ~ {Axl Rose; Dizzy Reed}
Queen ~ {Freddie Mercury}
Rolling Stones ~ {Nicky Hopkins}

Then there's:

Mike Oldfield
Elton John
Sarah McLachlan
Tori Amos

Tori Amos is quoted as saying that she "Wanted to do on a piano what Jimmy Page does on a guitar"!

in the movie brahm stoker's dracula, "unforgiven" by nmetallica was done as a strings instrumental, i'm sure there's music available. and i mean, s&m was done with an orchestra so i'd bet there's some tabs out there

Well, yeah, but it would probably sound like you're playing to a bunch of drunks in a piano bar.
