Last year I started getting abnormal pap smear results. My doc has had me go through numerous paps, and a colposcopy. The last round of results came back abnormal as well...well I just went for my annual again last week and was told a couple days later that my pap is still abnormal...I had an IUD inserted last year in June, my annual was in August, and my paps have been abnormal since...could the IUD be causing the abnormality? I asked my dic and he told me that it wasn't the IUD, but I can't help but wonder...any suggestions would be helpful.

I went through that myself and the gynecologist then had to do a biopsy. It was determined that I had an infection. He cleaned me out. I laid on a table and he put like a hose in me with some type of solution and hooked the hose to the sink faucet and cleaned me out. I went back six weeks later and I had a normal pap. What caused mine was an infection. It is possible that you may have the HPV ( Human Pappoloma Virus) Ask your doctor to do a biopsy and then you will get some answers. You probably will need a cleaning out. It does not hurt at all. It is possible that you will need more than one cleaning. I was lucky and only needed one cleaning out. I hope this helps you. I know it is nerve wracking to keep having abnormal paps. Please ask your gynecologist to give you a biopsy so you will have an answer. Good Luck.
