Daily morning start taking fresh mix juice of Carrot +Apple+Garlic (1 OR 2 PETALS) + small Onion , regularly for a month. Also wash your face with warm water before going to bed and after waking up. I was suffering from my childhood, I started taking this at the age of 45. Now I am 65. No problems.

I've always found echinacea and zinc to help. Try the zinc lozenges called Cold Eze. Also garlic is a natural antibacterial/antiviral agent so eat up!
Drink plenty of fluids (orange juice is fine, that chick above me doesn't know what she is talking about)
Rest, or at least take it easy
remember steam helps break up congestion, so does cranberry juice

When you know you are about to get really sick, but not yet. Every time I'm felling like you are now... I take a lot of vitamin C, drink tea with lemon throughout the day and most important of all, Echinacea Drops. The ones I take are from the pharmacy, but I've seen them on the internet too (A. Vogel website) http://www.avogel.ca/en/product-finder/natural_remedies/echinaforce_liq.php

I always get hot baths and do some steam inhalation. The steam from both calms all your mucous membranes. I also take vit C but not sure it helps really!!! Steam is definitely the best thing to help a cold.....can't believe we're getting to 'cold season' already!!!! :( get well soon :)

Not really anything that affects duration much, all you can do is try and manage specific symptoms. Paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain and fever, a decongestant for catarrh and plenty of fluids. Unfortunately a grove of lemons, 2 hives of honey, and the entire contents of the vitamins and echinacea shelves of 3 Holland and Barrett's shops will make no difference at all.

A dietician I knew told me to chew on a garlic clove for a sore throat. Well, it works. You won't have one the next day. I have also used it when ever I felt I was coming down with something, and, the next day I felt fine. It is very hot when you chew it. I can hardly press down on it for this reason, so I don't obviously get a whole clove. But, it really has made a difference for me when this happens.

I use essential oils. Pine, eucalyptus and frankincense in a burner or alternative on a tissue on the heater.
To keep my nose clear overnight i mix eucalyptus and lemon on a tissue and put it in my bedroom.
