I am building a gaming PC but I am usually multi tasking. Ex: Internet, documents, games. I want to be able to multi task but I also want to be able to have great performance for gaming. Which one of these processors would work best?

Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 1.86GHz 1066MHz 4MB S775 DualCore CPU

or

Intel Pentium 4 661 3.60GHz 800MHz 2MB Socket 775 CPU

Hi,

The E6320 is the one that you want to have. It is really MUCH faster. I have a P4 3,0Ghz, an E2140 (2x 1.6Ghz) and an Athlon 3800+ (2x 2.0 Ghz). The dual cores are MUCH faster, especially when multi tasking.

Good luck with it!

E6320 of course!
In benchmarks below, even the 3.6-3.73Ghz HOT Pentiums could hardly keep up with the cool running E6300 that has just half the L2 cache of the E6320.

Core2 Duo rules!

the E6320 for sure. even if you don't look at the clock speeds, the FSB's and caches are better on the C2D. Anything less than are C2D is pretty much old news.

either of the two will do if only for gaming.

but if you will also multitask, you should go for "core2duo". since it can handle multiple tasks much better. (but "core2quad" will be the best if you can afford it).

try to make your memory into "dual channel" and video into "SLI".
