Regardless of whether or not you are on good terms with your manager, you need to be honest. Explain why you need to take the day off and how you will make up the time.
If your manager says "no" and you cannot afford to lose your job, then go to work.
In the future, when you are attending a pre-planned event like a youth conference, ask for the time off well in advance.

Don't make excuses!!! The boss is not impressed by them, & they only end up making you look as a liar in the long run! Be honest with your boss about the time you need off for your doctors appointments & other times that you need off for certain occasions! You may need to prioritize your time, & rel
kize that you do have a job now, & tht your no loinger in school. Being reaponsible is a tough thing to do! If it were eacy then wed have a lot more fewer fights!!!

Usually the best excuse it's having an check-up.
One time, I needed to miss work, and I knew my boss wasn't going to give me that day off. So, I went, and got some urine and blood test that day. I went like at 5:00 AM, and got that tken care of, and I had the rest of the day off to do my thing.
The next day, I was at work with the bills from the clinic that I got tested, and my boss was 0K with it.

BAD CHICKEN/FOOD POISONING. I used to use it ALL the time for various jobs. It is good because you don't have to "go to the doc" for it and it normally clears up the next day. Cypro is normally what they will give you for mild cases of food poisoning. So if you use it you can say a buddy gave you some Cypro and it seems to be helping. GOOD LUCK

You can say that your mother-in-law (or other very close relative), is seriously ill at the hospital in another city, you are very worry for her and you want to visit her in case she needs anything, since you are her only relative.
I did it in my work and it worked!!
