Im sick of the rat race and all that goes with it, I need to enjoy life and what it has to offer. I'm 32 and do not have kids but need to be set free from worldly expectations and to life my dreams. Has anyone else out there felt like this or even better wstill, actually done this who will be able to advice my or affirm that I am in deed on the right track. No I am not running away from anything or anyone, I just have come to the point in my life where I have realised that there has to be more to our life than the mundane 9 to 5 slog and all the 'normal' parametres one is expected to conform to ...... I feel desperately trapped in a life style that is going nowhere ..... so this is why I want to do a 180 degrees and change my life style as I have always dreamed of. Yes I know this sounds like a fairy tale and yes I know there is always the down side to this percieved idillic life style, so does anyone out there have something constructive to contrribute before I take the plunge ?

Well if you mad, so am I. I was 41 when I "woke up" and got tired of living the rat race. My dream was to live in the tropics and really retire after 23 years of service to my country. I moved to the Philippines in January 2002 and have lived here ever since. I live comfortably on my retirement pay and am quite happy with the simple things in life and occasionally spend for the nicer things in life.

Everyone told me I was crazy too because I wanted out of the rat race and to move to a third world county. But hey, I'm happy and that's what matters most. You don't get a second chance at life and I'm living my dream. Besides I could never live with myself with the regret of the "what if".

My only advice other than "go for it" would be to make sure you have an income stream to support your new lifestyle.
People don't plan to fail, they fail to plan. If that's really your dream plan for it before you take the big plunge.

Good luck and if you wind up in the Philippine sea stop by the Island of Panay and the first round is on me.

I moved to the tropics 30 years ago and have been living aboard sailboats ever since..... you're not mad: you are very very sane.

Life is too short to waste..at 32 you are primed for adventure and fun and doing what makes your heart sing......and you can always go back to the rat race.it will always be there sucking up lives and energy like some bad karma hurricane.....

there are hundreds if not more people doing this down here in the Caribbean; come down to ST Thomas and there will be no shortage of support and care; for you know what? We all made a conscious decision to come here and sail and live the life Buffet made millions singing about to those who didn't have the courage to try.....and we're always happy so see another escapee run away and join our circus!
Feel free to e-mail......
