I think the best solution is to just attach your OLD PC's Hard Disk to the new PC. After that you can see all the OLD PC's data in your new PC.
Then you can selectively copy the files/folders/drive contents to the new PC's hard disk drive.
No need to waste money on floppy/cds/dvds. Infact if you use web based solutions to backup the data, you might end up in speed issues, as backing up Gigabytes of data is not that fast on web based briefcases.

Ok,since you have a space for a floppy drive why not get a Zip drive, they are pretty cheap these days on Ebay, hold 100mb(so nearly 100 times as much as a floppy) and are easy to install, just take out the floppy and install the zip drive in it's place.

Try networking your two pc's. You'll just need a common lan cable in order to connect them. Ask help from someone you know that knows networking because sometimes networking can be troublesome especially at your case where your other pc is old and may have older version o.s..
Or you can also borrow usb bluetooth dongles from your friends and just transfer your files via bluetooth connectivity.
Good luck.

I would go with a pen drive. If it is just files you might want to send them to an e-mail address. yahoo has unlimited (well for me) and g mail gives over 2 gigs of storage space. Just matters on your password, and you can e-mail to yourself. Fastest way to transfer would be with a pen drive. Usually about $10 per gig. And you can rewrite the items on the pen drive.

If u have a good net connection. then goto mediamax.com to upload ur files for free..they have good space..But file size can be a limiting factor..
Try zipping the files to save space
Else
remove drive / get a external drive from a friend n copy/burn the data...
Do rate if it helped

You should back up all the files onto a disc, like a CD.
