Appeasment was a policy initiated by Neville Chamberlain of Britan (Prime Minister prior to Churchill) in order to make Germany/The Nazi party happy to prevent war, however the policy allowed Germany to become more powerful and destabilized the region leading to the second World war.

Appeasement was the policy of allowing Nazi Germany to keep the territories they had already taken if they promised not to take any more. It was largely the idea of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. He was concerned that if another war broke out that England would suffer greatly. But all appeasement really did was embolden Hitler, because he began to believe that the English and French would simply stand by and do nothing. So he just continued to take territory and when he invaded Poland, England and France were obligated to help their ally.

Appeasement is a policy of accepting the imposed conditions of an aggressor instead of armed resistance, usually at the sacrifice of principles. It means giving into demands of an aggressor in order to avoid war. Since World War II, the term has a negative meaning in politics and in general, such as weakness, cowardice and self-deception. A famous example is Neville Chamberlain's foreign policy during the inter-war period 1919-1939 when he used a policy of appeasement of Hitler who was starting to conquer other nations and using anti-semitism. It was supposed to avoid war, but it just gave Hitler time to get stronger and more aggressive, and ended in the Second World War.
